In his book, David states that ‘Sumatran Tiger was undoubtedly his fastest selling print ever’! And I remember buying it too. On the day I went to an exhibition which was run by Simon Skuse, a friend of David’s. Simon had set up a beautiful exhibition at the Marriot Hotel on the way to Portsmouth. He was selling ‘Sumatran Tiger’ so fast I was worried I he’d run out. I guess the attraction of this drawing is in the pose and the look of this tiger; looking over his shoulder. He also looks immensely powerful and yet also very cute with all that straggly hair! And, of course, the amazing detail that David has put into this drawing. So I had to buy it.
